Frequently Asked Questions

Engaging a design consultant early means your building services are designed around performance, efficiency, and compliance from the outset, not just installed to meet a budget. Contractors typically design to deliver what's specified, but if the specification is incomplete or based on outdated assumptions, you end up with systems that cost more to run, don't meet current regulations, or need replacing sooner than expected. An independent consultant ensures the design is right before it goes to tender, giving you better control over quality, cost, and long-term performance.

A traditional site survey gives you a snapshot of what's installed. Our data driven approach goes further. We use tools like IES thermal modelling, thermal imaging, and electrical load monitoring to understand how your building actually performs in real-time. This means we can identify hidden inefficiencies, right-size replacement systems accurately, and build a business case backed by real data rather than assumptions. It's the difference between guessing what your building needs and knowing.
Instead of generic assumptions, Salvis:
Surveys the buildings and all building services
Identifies system-by-system energy and carbon drivers
Accounts for operational, space and electrical constraints
Produces phased, investment-ready decarbonisation plans
Assesses the age of equipment, which will impact the delivery programme
In short, carbon calculators measure the problem. Salvis delivers the solution.

As early as possible. The biggest cost savings and performance gains come from getting the engineering design right at feasibility stage, before planning is locked in and before contractors are appointed. Bringing us in early means we can influence the heating strategy, roof design for solar PV, electrical infrastructure, and compliance approach while changes are still simple and cheap. The later we're involved, the more constrained the options become and the more expensive any redesign will be.
