Gosport War Memorial Hospital forms part of the Hampshire and Isle of Wight Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust. Founded in 1921, the hospital has served the local community for over a century, providing a range of NHS healthcare services.

The Challenge:

Reduce reliance on grid electricity and lower energy costs.
Deliver measurable carbon savings in line with NHS sustainability goals.
Support the Trust to gain funding.

The Solution:

Salvis supported the Trust to gain funding through the NHS National Energy Efficiency Fund (NEEF) by completing detailed feasibility studies and completing the applications, which led to being awarded £3 million to install Solar PV across 8 hospitals, which included Gosport War Memorial Hospital.
A commercial rooftop solar PV system was designed and project managed by Salvis and installed by Tate Electrical Services Ltd.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • Converting to solar panels offers several key benefits, primarily driven by long-term financial savings, environmental responsibility, and increased energy independence. By installing photovoltaic (PV) systems, homeowners and businesses can generate their own clean electricity, reducing reliance on the grid and fossil fuels.

  • Solar panels typically last 25 to 30 years, with many lasting well beyond this period. Rather than stopping abruptly, panels experience a gradual reduction in efficiency, roughly 0.5%-1% per year, producing around 80% of their original capacity after 25 years. However, the inverters may need to be replaced after 15 years.

  • Yes, there are several funding options, grants, and incentives available for solar panels in the UK, primarily aimed at increasing energy efficiency and reducing carbon footprints.  Funding opportunities and the value of grants change on a frequent basis, so please create an inquiry to find out how we can help secure funding.

  • Solar panel maintenance is generally very low; the primary requirements are occasional cleaning to remove debris such as dirt and leaves (roughly every 12-18 months) and monitoring the performance to ensure efficiency.
